Pricing and quotes

Pricing and quotes.

How much does tree removal cost in Louisville?
It genuinely depends on the tree. A small, simple removal in an open yard can be a few hundred dollars, while a large tree over a house is a bigger, more technical job that costs more. Size, height, access, condition, and what's underneath it drive the price, which is why every quote is done in person, free.
Is the quote really free?
Yes. We come out, look at the actual tree, and give you a straight price on the spot. There's no charge and no obligation. If the price doesn't work for you, no hard feelings.
Do I need to be home for the quote?
Not necessarily. If the tree is visible and reachable from outside, we can look at it and call you with the price. Being there helps if you have questions or the tree is in a fenced backyard.
Why do tree service prices vary so much between companies?
Equipment, crew size, insurance overhead, and how badly a company wants the job all move the number. A wildly low bid usually means corners get cut somewhere, often on the cleanup or the safety side. Compare what's actually included: takedown, hauling, cleanup, and stump.
Can I get a ballpark price over the phone?
Sometimes. Text a photo of the tree to (502) 767-5239 with something for scale and we can often give you a rough range fast. The firm price still comes from seeing the tree in person, because photos hide things like access and lean.
Tree removal

Tree removal.

Can you remove a tree that's right against my house?
Yes, that's the majority of the removals we do. Trees over structures get climbed and taken apart from the top down, with the big wood roped and lowered so nothing free-falls near your roof, garage, fence, or lines.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Louisville?
For most trees on private residential property, no. Trees in the public right of way, like between the sidewalk and the street, are a different story and may involve the city. If your tree is a borderline case, ask at the quote and we'll point you the right way.
How do I know if my tree needs to come down or just needs a trim?
Look for big dead sections, fungus or mushrooms at the base, a new lean, cracks in the trunk, or a spring where half the crown didn't leaf out. Any of those is worth a professional look. Sometimes a trim saves the tree; sometimes removal is the smarter money. we'll tell you straight either way.
Is a dead tree harder to remove?
It's more dangerous, not just harder. Dead wood is brittle and unpredictable to climb and rig, which is why a dead tree should come down sooner rather than later, before it gets worse. If you think your tree is dead, don't wait for a storm to decide for you.
How long does a tree removal take?
Most residential removals are done in a day, and smaller ones in a few hours. Big technical takedowns with lots of roping can run longer. You'll know the plan before we start.
What happens to all the wood?
Hauled off, unless you want it. Plenty of customers keep trunk wood for firewood or chips for garden beds. Tell us at the quote and we'll leave it cut and stacked instead of hauling it.
Will the removal tear up my yard?
Protecting the yard is part of the job. Wood gets lowered, not dropped, and everything is raked and cleaned before we leave. Our Google reviews mention the cleanup more than anything else, and that's on purpose.
Stumps

Stumps.

Do you grind stumps or dig them out?
We grind them. A grinder chews the stump down below grade, taking the visible wood and the top of the root flare with it, without the crater that digging leaves. What's left is a shallow bed of chips where the stump used to be.
How deep do you grind a stump?
Below grade, deep enough to backfill and grow grass over. If you're planning to replant or pour concrete in that spot, say so and we grind deeper to match what the spot needs.
Can I plant grass where the stump was?
Yes. Once the chips are cleared or settled and the hole is backfilled with soil, grass grows fine there. If you want to plant a new tree in the same spot, tell us, because that calls for a deeper grind and fresh soil.
Will the stump grow back after grinding?
The stump itself won't, because grinding removes the growing wood. A few aggressive species can send up shoots from leftover roots for a season, and mowing them a few times finishes the job.
Can you get a grinder into my fenced backyard?
Usually. Gate width is the deciding factor, so measure your gate opening before you call and we'll know instantly whether our equipment fits or the job needs a different approach.
What do you do with the grinding chips?
Your choice: we haul them and backfill the hole so it's ready for topsoil and seed, or we leave them in clean piles for your garden beds. One reviewer asked for exactly that and got “clean and neat piles of stump chips as requested.”
Trimming and pruning

Trimming and pruning.

When is the best time of year to trim trees?
Dead or dangerous limbs: right now, whatever the season. For routine shaping, the dormant months are easiest on the tree and make its structure easy to see, but most yard trees can be trimmed safely most of the year.
How often should trees be trimmed?
Most mature yard trees do fine every few years. Fast growers near a house or driveway need attention more often. We'll tell you honestly at the quote instead of selling you a schedule you don't need.
What is tree topping, and why won't you do it?
Topping is chopping the whole crown flat. It looks like progress for a season, then the tree answers with a burst of weak, fast-growing shoots that are more dangerous than what you started with. Proper pruning cuts at the right spots so the tree heals clean and grows back the way you want.
Can you trim the branches hanging over my roof?
Yes, roof clearance is one of the most common trims we do. Limbs get roped and lowered, not dropped, so your shingles and gutters never know we were there.
My neighbor's tree hangs into my yard. Can you trim it?
Generally you can have branches over your property line trimmed back to it. It pays to talk to the neighbor first, and we're happy to quote it so you can show them exactly what would be done.
Storm damage

Storm damage.

A tree fell on my power line. Who do I call?
The utility first, always, LG&E in most of Louisville. Never let anyone, including a tree company, touch a tree that's in a live line. Once the utility has made the line safe, we handle the tree.
A tree just fell on my fence or roof. What do I do first?
Stay out from under anything still hanging, take wide and close-up photos for insurance before anything moves, then call or text us. First visit is about making it safe: getting weight off the structure and cutting the hazard out. Then it all gets hauled and cleaned.
Does homeowner's insurance cover tree removal?
Often yes when the tree damaged a structure, and policies differ on trees that fell in the open. We give you a clear written quote and photos your adjuster can work with, and we'll work in whatever order the claim needs.
My tree is leaning after a storm but hasn't fallen. Is that urgent?
Treat it as urgent. A partially failed tree is the most dangerous kind, because the rest of the fall can happen without warning. Keep people and pets out from under it and call. Getting eyes on a storm lean is free.
How fast can you come out after a storm?
Storm damage goes to the front of the line, ahead of routine work. Customers have had us out the same day after a bad storm to evaluate and make things safe. Call or text a photo and you'll know quickly where you stand.
Land clearing and brush removal

Land clearing and brush removal.

What does land clearing include?
Overgrown lots, brush piles, fence lines, honeysuckle and scrub trees, cut, cleared, and hauled off. Small trees come out roots and all where the ground allows, and the lot is left ready for whatever you're planning: a build, a fence, a garden, or just a yard you can see across.
How big a lot can you clear?
From a fence line to multiple acres. We run a tractor for the heavy pulling and hauling, so the answer for most residential and small commercial lots is yes. Describe the lot when you call and we'll tell you straight whether it's our kind of job.
Can you clear just part of my property?
Absolutely. Plenty of jobs are one overgrown corner, the strip along a fence, or the view line behind the house. You point at what goes, and everything on the other side of that line stays untouched.
Do you haul away the brush, or do I need a dumpster?
We haul it. Brush, logs, and debris leave on our equipment as part of the quoted price, so there's no dumpster sitting in your driveway and no burn pile smoldering for a week.
When is the best time of year to clear brush?
Late fall through early spring is easiest: the growth is dormant, you can see the ground, and you're ahead of nesting season. But if the lot is in your way right now, we clear year-round.
24-hour emergency service

24-hour emergency service.

What counts as a tree emergency?
A tree or big limb on a house, car, fence, or driveway; a tree leaning where it wasn't leaning yesterday; anything hanging broken over where people walk. If you're asking yourself whether it's an emergency, call and describe it, we'll tell you honestly whether it can wait for morning.
Do you really answer at 2am?
The emergency line is the same number as everything else: (502) 767-5239. Storm calls come in at all hours and emergencies go to the front of the line, ahead of all routine work.
Is emergency tree work more expensive?
You're paying for the same work, prioritized. We quote it straight before we start, the same as any job, and we give you photos and a written price your insurance adjuster can use.
A tree fell but didn't hit anything. Is that still urgent?
Less urgent, but don't ignore it. A down tree resting on other trees or a fence can shift, and an uprooted root ball can stand back up without warning. Keep kids and pets off it and get it on our schedule.
What should I do while I wait for the crew?
Stay out from under anything hanging, keep everyone away from downed lines and call LG&E if a line is involved, and take photos for your insurance before anything gets moved. We handle the rest when we get there.
Scheduling and service area

Scheduling and service area.

Where does Green Tree work?
Out of Louisville, covering the metro and nearby towns on both sides of the river: Jeffersontown, St. Matthews, Middletown, Fern Creek, Okolona, Shively, Prospect, Mt. Washington, plus New Albany, Jeffersonville, and Clarksville in Southern Indiana. On the edge of that map? Call anyway.
How do I get on the schedule?
Call or text (502) 767-5239. You're talking straight to the crew, not an answering service, so you'll know quickly when the quote can happen and when the work can. Storm damage jumps the line.
Do you clean up when the job is done?
Cleanup is the thing our Google reviews mention most. Limbs and debris hauled, lawn raked and blown off, and a walk around the yard together before the truck leaves. If you want wood or chips left for you, just say so.
Do you handle small jobs, like one limb?
Yes. One hanging limb, one downed branch, one stump: no job is beneath a call. One reviewer hired us to chop up a single downed limb and got the same fast response as a full removal.
